Know these rights - they might save your life
- the right to refuse any unsafe work.
- the right to know about what can hurt you.
- the right to take part in your own safety.
Don’t be afraid to speak up. It’s against the law for your boss to fire or penalize you for refusing unsafe work or reporting unsafe work conditions. And every employer is required by law to keep your safety in mind and talk to you about it.
You can talk to your supervisor or someone on your company’s safety committee. If you are still worried about your safety, you can report unsafe work conditions to the Nova Scotia Department of Labour and Advanced Education by calling 1-800-9LABOUR (1-800-952-2687).
